In situ recovery of copper at the historic sediment-hosted copper mine in Kapunda, SA

EnviroCopper's Kapunda copper project is shaping up to be Australia’s first in situ recovery (ISR) operation, demonstrating an environmentally friendly method of mining resources (see further info below). This field trip will focus on the in situ recovery of copper at the historic Kapunda sediment-hosted copper mine, mining history and geology of the deposit. Participants will go on a guided tour of the historic mine followed by a visit to the EnviroCopper ISR test site.

Tour Assembles: 8:45am (approx) for a 9am departure - Adelaide Convention Centre

Returns: 3:30-4pm 

Cost: $200 delegate; $100 student.

Field Trip Includes: Bus transportation, guided tour of historic mine (1.5km easy walk, road cutting, EnviroCopper pump test site and lunch. 

What to bring: You'll need to be wear sturdy shoes, and you also need to bring a hat, sun-cream, and have a drink bottle. 

Climate: Temperatures are variable during Spring with daytime maxima typically from 20-low 30’s⁰C (60s -80s degrees F).

Overview and introduction to Kapunda

10:30am - 11:30am

Walk around the historic Kapunda Mine

11:30am - 12:30pm

Pump test site A and B.

Road cutting

Small pit exposure

12:45pm - 1pm
Travel to Greenock Hotel
1pm - 2:30pm
Lunch at Greenock Hotel (optional wine tasting at Kalleske cellar door - $15p/p)
2:45pm - 4pmDrive back to Adelaide Convention Centre
